Dolores Sheridan is a psychotherapist and writer who has lived and worked in Notting Hill for over twenty five years. Some call her Dolores, others Sheridan. She says it’s just one of those things and answers to either.
A major crisis led to her own discovery of psychotherapy as it turned her life around when nothing else worked. When it was over, she trained as a psychotherapist and has kept pace with new approaches, developments, thinking and research during that time. Music, which she has listened to and studied since childhood plays a big part in her life, so listening at a deep level is second nature.
Strange Fruit was published in the nineties. It describes a Dark Night of the Soul, an experience which changed her life completely and culminated in heightened awareness, sensitivity and intuition.
Song without Words follows on after many years of study and experience. It is due to be published in 2023.
It takes courage to come to therapy. It takes courage to face fears that surface at 3am and keep you tossing and turning all night. How we’re treated as children determines our outlook on life. Those who are lucky enough to be loved unconditionally grow up feeling safe in the world. The less fortunate are haunted by the past, always on the lookout for danger, believing they're never good enough to be loved.
As adults they fall into the kinds of relationships that didn’t work in the past. They make the same mistakes with the same results, repeat the same roles in an attempt to protect themselves. Their hopes and dreams fall by the wayside. They hide their real selves and rarely reach their potential. They may influence the next generation in a negative way and prevent them from reaching their potential.
We have one life, one chance to make it our own. Don’t let old wounds and false beliefs define you. Therapy is one way you can be seen, heard and accompanied along the road to discover your real self and live your own life. It can be long or short term depending on your needs. Some gain insight even in one intensive session. You yourself hold the key.
"Dolores Sheridan is a true healer. For me her work has proved life-changing and I cannot thank her enough. I came to her many years ago suffering from significant unresolved trauma, which she was able to tap into almost instantly. With her incredible sensitivity, insight, intuition and intelligence, she offered a safe space to unravel, heal and ultimately to take that safe space back into the outside world and gradually flourish. What she has given me, through her professionalism and delicate care, I now see flowing through the lives of others close to me, which I find the most beautiful of all.
Forever in gratitude." Claire M.
